I recently met with a local family who are planning their son’s’ Bar Mitzvah, the coming of age ritual in a thirteen old boy’s life, growing up in the Jewish faith. For girls, it is called Bat Mitzvah. It is a time when the teen boy or girl is now accountable for their own actions within their faith. Bar = Son & Bat = Daughter while Mitzvah = Commandment. So the young person becomes “Son of Commandment” or “Daughter of Commandment “.
